YouTube has just introduced a new section called Colleges on YouTube.   Students, alumni, and staff from 30 universities will be able to access this portion of the YouTube site using their .edu addresses assigned to them by universities.  Others will not be able to access the videos in the colleges section.

After months of massive video aggregation at giant sites like Google Video and YouTube, we are beginning to see a move back in the other direction toward specialized areas that make it easier for users to find video that is of interest to them.   This makes a lot of sense to me.   With millions of tagged videos available at the big video sharing sites, users need some forms of hierarchical organization (in a addition to tags) that make finding videos quicker and more efficient.
