Of course it had to happen, the adult video industry is leveraging the booming video on the net phenomenon by emulating mainstream video sharing sites such as YouTube.
Clearly this is not a topic for everyone, so here is your chance to move on to the next post.
In past posts about adult video on the net, I have maintained that making adult video on the net appear more mainstream to users can draw a lot of visitors that are hesitant to visit seedy corners of the net where rude pop-ups and malware abound. If you build a site that looks something like YouTube or Google Video, people will flock to the service with less fear and guilt. I am not glorifying the porn business here, just an observation.
There is nothing new about adult video on the net. What is new is packaging the video in the guise of mainstream Web 2.0 sites: user uploads, video sharing, slick interactive interfaces, etc.
The current poster child for adult video YouTube look a likes is PornoTube (link absolutely 100% not safe for work and not appropriate for minors or for those offended by explicit content). Surprisingly, the site is quite well designed and generally free from obtrusive advertising. It indeed operates in much of the same fashion as the mainstream video sharing sites.
PornoTube is flooded mostly with adult videos promoting adult sites and pirated content. Adult video content owners don’t often go after pirates as nobody wants the publicity that comes with enforcing intellectual property rights.
My big concern with PornoTube is the lack of a landing page that clearly warns surfers that they are venturing into waters not appropriate for minors. No matter what you think of adult video, there is no excuse for not having clear warnings posted on the web site. The folks behind the web site, long time porn purveyors, AEBN, are acting in an irresponsible manner and asking for trouble.
