David over at YouAreTV contacted me to let me know about their new video site devoted to quality independent video on the Web.   It is great to see sites that focus on independent content.

I took it for a spin today, and it was a refreshing change from the endless rehash of commercial stuff on the Net.   The site is clean and well organized and does not detract from what is most important - the content.   YouAreTV has 21 channels, everything from Sports to Mockumentary and SciFi to Kids.

The site has all the basics required including video upload, tagging, RSS, and some basic social networking.  In additional they have an easy to use playlist generator that produces HTML that you can post on your own site.  YouAreTV also hosts competitions for filmmakers.

I really enjoyed browsing through the content and watching some good independently produced film.   YouAreTV is obviously a place created by folks who are focused on filmmakers and offers a great place for them showcase their talents and communicate with each other and their audiences.   Go take a look!

Not a bad site. Great content. Interesting that is has gotten a good number of views for so many videos. It uses what are now the basics of most video platforms: 1) tags, 2) comments, 3) number of views, 4) thumbnail views, 5) Syndicatable or “viral” features. It seems they’re using Quicktime and not Flash, which if it were the case would be a bit uncommon, but not unusual. Thanks for the tip Xeep (from Kevin at TasteTV, http://www.TasteTV.com)
