A Xeep reader, Goofee, has written to tell us about a competitor to Channel Chooser (earlier posts here and here). Streamick offers TV in your web browser just like Channel Chooser. Streamick offers many of the same channel choices as Channel Chooser, but appears to have decided against offering adult channels. The Streamick interface is clean, but I am not a big fan of how they have positioned the video viewing window on the page. The window is surrounded by some kind of brown paper graphic thingy that I do not understand and actually distracts from the viewing experience. The playback controls are strange pencil sketch graphics that again don’t add much and certainly distract from the experience. As with Channel Chooser, video streams are sometimes flaky, most likely due to bandwidth issues on my side or theirs. Sometimes video streams don’t launch at all.

TV on the web is in its infancy with many players coming at it from all different directions. My feeling is that the likes of Streamick and Channel Chooser are short term efforts that will burn out as big media (and big search/portal companies) get their acts together.

For now Streamick looks like a good alternative to Channel Chooser. Even with its idiosyncrasies, the Streamick interface is better than Channel Chooser’s Gothic cheesy look.

You can also take a look at this previous post with a long list of TV channels on the Net.

Bleh streamick and chooseandwatch both suck. Sorry but they’re only in it for the money which is why they put so many popups and banners. Chooseandwatch is the worst out of the lot.

Thanks for the site. Sopcast is also a very good site for live television online. I use it to watch the football and baskeball games. The only problem is the channels pause sometimes.
