With this recent post on TechCruch highlighting a new Web 2.0 service called SingleStat.us, It appears that the mini-bubble that is Web 2.0 is losing steam…fast. All the good ideas are taken and we are scraping the bottom of the barrel. SingleStat.us is a service that allows you to enter anyone’s Myspace profile and receive an email notification when their relationship status changes. Presumably, when someone’s status changes to single, it is time to make your move.
Is the idea cute? Yes. Is it simple? Yes. Is it useful? Probably not. Is it worth paying $3.95 a month? Absolutely not.
Update June 16, 2006 - MySpace has sent a cease and desist letter to SingleStat, indicating that they must shut the service down due to the burden that it is putting on the MySpace servers. That would be hard to believe. At any rate it looks like that might be the end of SingleStat.

Mini-bubble? 20-somethings and dating? I think Web2.0 might have finally found a business model which works.
