ZDNet has an interesting article with Mark Cuban in which he says that it would be smarter for content owners and movie rental companies to send hard drives loaded with high definition (HD) movies via UPS to customers rather than to offer the movies for download over the Internet.

Cuban say’s, “The reality is that it’s cheaper and faster to send (hard drives with terabytes of) content overnight via UPS than it is to download it over the Net. Brown is faster than the Net”.

He goes on to say that hard drives could either arrive at your doorstep via a Netflix like service or be picked up at the video rental store.   Users could then simply plug the hard drive into their LCD TV.

Cuban might be on to something here. It will be a long time before downloading HD movies over the Internet will make sense for most users.  Long waits and high bandwidth costs for distributors will keep this from being economical in the near future.

This model of movie delivery is also quite familiar to even the least tech-savvy consumer.   The process stays the same, just the medium of delivery would change from DVD to hard drive.

Of course, there would be other issues, film renters are notoriously mean to media they rent, and more than a few thrashed hard drives would change the economic viability of Cuban plan.

    Hello,
I have been asked to transfer data from a Tandy 1000HD computer that has a Tandon TM252 hard drive(MFM) and a controller card. The keyboard is missing so I have removed the hard drive and controller card from the computer.
How would you suggest that I go about getting the data from the hard drive?
I do have an older computer that has Windows XP Pro installed and the motherboard has a slot that the controller card will fit into.
I have inserted the card into the slot but have not attached the hard drive or turned the computer on as yet.
Will Win XP recognize the controller card and eventually recognize the hard drive?
    What are your thoughts/suggestions?
    Thank you!!! Bob Felison
