A few days ago, I reviewed last.fm.  One of my major disappointments was that I did not seem to really find new music but just a big city corporate radio station mix of popular tunes that I already new.   Pandora (aka The Music Genome Project) is different.  It introduces listeners to a much broader spectrum of music and provides some education along the way.  The concept is the same. Enter an artist and get suggestions for other similar music.

I like the way they introduce themselves:

“Ever since we started the Music Genome Project, our friends would ask: Can you help me discover more music that I’ll like? Those questions often evolved into great conversations. Each friend told us their favorite artists and songs, explored the music we suggested, gave us feedback, and we in turn made new suggestions. Everybody started joking that we were now their personal DJs.  We created Pandora so that we can have that same kind of conversation with you.”

If you want to hear more music you know, experience exceptional sound quality, and need a slick user experience, try last.fm.  If you want to learn a little bit and really find some new music, go with Pandora.

I’ve tried last.fm and Pandora. I like last.fm more. The sound quality is better and the user interface is more practical for me.
