OpenFlix is a great site devoted to providing pointers to movies and video that is presumed to be in the public domain.  The site is easy to navigate, has minimal advertising, and delivers on its promise to direct movie lovers to public domain video.

Movies can be browsed by genre including: Action, Adventure, Comedy, Documentary, Drama, Film Noir, Horror, Independent, Musical, Romance, Sci-fi & Fantasy, and Western

This is a great alternative to paid movie downloads and pirated movies, especially if you are into older movies.

Here is their introduction:

“OpenFlix provides a directory of movies commonly thought to be in the public domain and works their owners are willing to let be distributed.
Public Domain refers to the body of creative works and knowledge in which no person, government or organization has any proprietary interest such as a copyright. These works are considered part of the public cultural heritage and may be freely used by all.”
