Eyespot is yet another entrant in the online video editing and sharing space, joining Jumpcut and Grouper. I gave it a spin. I uploaded my standard test video of my son converting a spare in bowling, and proceeded to mix it with the Latin dance clip that was already loaded in the account when I first signed up. I uploaded a song for the audio track and added titles and transitions. In a few minutes I had a complete, if not artistic mash up of a bowling child and Latin dancers. The whole process went off without a hitch.
Recently, I did a short review of Jumpcut, a competing service. Functionally the services are essentially the same, save for one bell more here, and another whistle there. From a usability perspective, Eyespot has the more intuitive interface, and Jumpcut had the cleaner looking interface. I think it ends in a draw between the two competitors. Users will choose one or the other based on how intuitive they find one interface or the other.
For those of you using Internet Explorer 7, Eyespot will not render correctly for you. It does work correctly in IE 6 and in Firefox.
