Online photograph and video services are the darlings the Web 2.0 movement, but audio (mostly in the form of podcasting) is big too. Odeo is a service that lets you listen to podcasts made by others, but more importantly to record and share your own podcasts.
This is how they describe themselves. “Odeo is a creative way to record and share audio—and it’s free. You can record audio and then share it with your Odeo contacts, by email, or by placing it in a Channel for all the world to hear. Audio from Odeo can be downloaded to desktops, iPods, and mp3 players. We’re working to make sharing audio via the web better and as easy as possible.”
I personally have not found a need to record my own podcasts, most likely I have little to say that others would listen to. It is a lot of fun to browse the Odeo site and listen to the incredibly broad range of podcasts available. Where else can you listen to NPR Radio shows and the Scala Girls Choir cover the Divinyls tune “I Touch Myself”?
