Microsoft will offer free episodes of the quirky comedy “Arrested Development” on its MSN Video service later this year, making the show available online for the first time. Microsoft will rely on advertising income rather than charging viewers to watch the show as is the case with other services such as Apple’s iTunes. MSN will have exclusive portal rights to syndicate the show’s 53 episodes for three years.

Microsoft will stream the show on the Web rather than offering downloads of the episodes. This may not go over well with viewers as streaming video on the net is often problematic to due issues of low and/or inconsistent bandwidth service to many homes.

“Arrested Development” drew critical praise and had a cult fan base, but did not draw broader audiences. The show was cancelled this year after three seasons.

Will this be region restricted? What a drag. We need US television here in thees part of the world.

Mars - I am not sure if it will be restricted or not. I believe the Microsoft bought the worldwide rights to the show for web distribution, so maybe this will be available worldwide. Many shows are only available to Internet users in the states because the content owners have already sold the international rights to other companies. I will follow it and let you know.
