While numerous competitors are waging battle to offer Hollywood movies for download on the Web, Memocast is focusing on streaming and downloads of foreign films and TV shows. Currently Memocast is offering primarily Russian movies that it obtained in a deal with Russian movie studio Souzmultfilm.
The site differs from big Hollywood movie download sites in that it still has a distinctively home grown feeling to it. The navigation and layout of the site is functional, but by no means refined. This less than designer quality presentation may scare some from handing over their credit card data, but it does not take a way markedly from the sites usability.
The site has three offerings. You can stream films for free if you are willing to watch commercials. You can download a DVD quality film or video at prices ranging from $1.99 to $3.99 or you can have access to the entire library without commercials via stream for $7.99/month.
At this point, the site is squarely aimed at Russian speakers with almost exclusively Russian language content. There are substantial numbers of Russian speakers, mostly recent immigrants, living around the word. The market bigger than one might think. Memocast does say that they will expand their offerings to include content from other countries.
