I’m online and on Lufthansa flight LH 451 from Munich bound for Charlotte, North Carolina, cruising along at 450 miles an hour. I am taking this opportunity to try out Lufthansa’s FlyNet in-flight Internet service provided by Connexion by Boeing. Armed with my $5 off coupon, I want to find if the world of video on the Internet is also Internet video in the sky.

My first stop is YouTube to see if I can upload a 30MB file of my son riding a snowmobile. Slow going for sure, gives broadband a bad name, but it works. You can upload your videos on a plane.

Second stop, Google Video to try to watch the most popular videos of the day. No go. Does not work. The in-flight video system has nothing to fear. Passengers won’t be tuning out to stream the video of their choice to their laptops.

Finally stop, iTunes to download an episode of CSI NY. The file downloaded without a hitch, and the woman’s boss didn’t throw her corpse in the river.

In the end, I was not inducted into the Mile High Streaming Video Club, video uploading and downloading worked fine, but I just could not make the streaming video work.
