The Internet Archive’s Moving Images Site is an often overlooked source of great video on the net. For those of you not familiar with the Internet Archive, this is how they describe themselves:

“The Internet Archive is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that was founded to build an ‘Internet library,’ with the purpose of offering permanent access for researchers, historians, and scholars to historical collections that exist in digital format. Founded in 1996 and located in the Presidio of San Francisco, the Archive has been receiving data donations from Alexa Internet and others. In late 1999, the organization started to grow to include more well-rounded collections. Now the Internet Archive includes texts, audio, moving images, and software as well as archived web pages in our collections.”

IA’s Moving Pictures Site offers videos in the following categories: Prelinger Archives, Iraq War, Open Source Movies, Feature Films, Computer Chronicles, Net Cafe, Democracy Now, Cinemocracy, Election 2004, Youth Media, SIGGRAPH, Open Mind, Shaping San Francisco, Brick Films, Video Games, Film Chest Vintage Cartoons, Mosaic Middle East News, AV Geeks, SabuCat Movie Trailers, Universal Newsreels, Media Burn, BBS Documentary Video Collection, German Cinema, Globians Film Festival, Deep Dish, UCSF Tobacco Industry Videos, Coffee House TV, Fadiman Social Documentaries, Sports Videos, Kino French Films, and Drive-In Movie Ads.

There are more than 38,000 videos available for streaming at varying download speeds and some are even offered in NTSC DVD ISO format to make it easier to burn the videos to DVD.
