ifilm, owned by Viacom, has quietly launched a new video sharing site, ifilm beta, to compete with YouTube. The site offers MTV licensed programming including Jackass, Laguna Beach, Pimp My Ride, Aeon Flux, Punk’d, and Real World. ifilm also allows users to upload and share videos.
With the recent purchase of YouTube by Google, the ifilm Viacom offering, and the upcoming Soapbox video sharing offering from Microsoft, consolidation in the video sharing and online video market continues to heat up. Either video sharing sites will be purchased by big media and technology players or they will be relegated to second tier niche offerings.
The site uses Flash to stream video. It is intuitively laid out and a pleasure to navigate. They have created a number of themed channels including:
- Adrenaline
- Anime
- Comedy
- Commercials
- Girls
- Indie Films
- Movies
- Music Videos
- Shorts
- TV Clips
- User Video
- Video Games
- Viral Videos
- WarZone
- Web Junk 20
- Whiplash-ZK
- World
