Grouper, a video-sharing service recently purchased by Sony, is beginning to leverage the film vault of their parent. Grouper offers about 100 clips from movies like Spiderman, Jerry Maguire, A Few Good Men, A League of Their Own, On the Waterfront, and many others from a number of genres and time periods.
The clip’s are about 30 seconds in length and rather than trying to make it hard for users to share clips, Grouper is encouraging viewers to embed, share, and send. The catch? Each clip has an advertisement at the end that encourages people to buy the entire film with a link to the Sony online store. I think this is genius, free viral marketing!
