GreedTube is new service that allows users to embed YouTube videos on the site and share 50/50 in the Adsense revenue generated by the videos.   Is this simply a stunt to make money?  How long will it take before YouTube lawyers descend upon GreedTube?

If anything, the site highlights many of the issues faced by the video sharing industry.  Currently, YouTube is keeping all of the revenue for themselves.  Effectively using user generated content to profit, but a vast portion of the content is not even owned by the people that uploaded it in the first place (think SouthPark, music videos, TV show clips, etc).  So YouTube is profiting from content of third party content owners.

So what exactly is the difference if GreedTube, steals the content again, and shares the wealth with uploaders?   If the content is really owned by the uploader, which is rarely the case, then now YouTube, GreedTube, and the uploader are all profiting from another parties content.  And it get’s messier and messier.

Let’s watch and see what happens!
