Google Video will begin distributing clips from MTV Networks’ shows to other web sites. The videos will have embedded advertising. Google and MTV will share the ad revenue generated from leveraging Google’s massive online advertising network. The partnership will start with a test that will offer 100 hours of programming from clips of “Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County,” “SpongeBob SquarePants” and MTV’s Video Music Awards.
Although the terms of the agreement between MTV and Google were not disclosed, The New York Times reported on Sunday that Viacom will receive more than two-thirds of the revenue from the ad deal.
The companies will also offer episodes from 17 Viacom (parent of MTV) programs for $1.99 each through Google Video. MTV also sells its programs through Apple’s iTunes for the same price.
