If you have ever sat through the uncut version of your neighbor’s trip to Disneyland video, you will appreciate how important it is to edit video down to a fun and easily sit-throughable size. Video editing, while becoming easier and easier, is a tedious and time consuming process.
These new sites are aiming to make the process as quick and easy as possible. The big question is, “Will it be easy enough to encourage mass adoption of the sites?” There will always be a group of hobbyists that enjoy the process of editing their videos, but they may be better served by desktop programs that are faster and offer much richer functionality. I am not convinced that the average birthday party filmaker will have the time and patience to use these new services. In future posts, I will take a look at the competitors in more depth.
