In an effort to rise above the low-quality offerings of video sharing sites like YouTube, Dovetail TV offers filmmakers and producers a place to share and promote their work. While YouTube is for the uploading masses, Dovetail is for professionals and aspiring amateurs.
The big differentiator here is that you can watch lower quality versions of the content on the web, but you can also download DVD quality video for free. The site uses P2P technology to speed the download.
There are currently channels devoted to music videos, shorts, documentaries, TV, feature films, LA Filmakers’ Co-op, Moving Pictures Magazine, and SF Shorts.
Once you are past the opening page, the site appears to be rendered in Flash rather than HTML, making the site slower, but much more engaging and refined.
I watched Haptics (shown below), and really liked it. Dovetail TV looks like a great place to find talented movie makers and enjoy quality film. Give it a try.
