You’ve got your iPod and iTunes software up and running, but you would like to have more control over your music and teach your iPod some new tricks. I am Windows and Windows Media Player user, and when I first got started with the iPod and iTunes, I loved the iPod and hated iTunes. It was not intuitive to me, and was very inflexible in the way it managed my music. I found that a number of companies offer a variety of software solutions to get around the limitations of iTunes and add additional functionality to the iPod. Here are a couple recommendations.
Anapod Explorer from Red Chair Software helps you manage your music in a way that is much more flexible and more intuitive to Windows users. I downloaded it, tried it, and paid for full version the same day. Here is what Red Chair says about it. ”Anapod is the most advanced Windows iPod software available, offering iPod management through full Windows Explorer integration under My Computer, easy drag and drop iPod transfer and iPod backup, PDA function support, photo and video transfer, web page interface access to your iPod through a built-in web server, powerful search and reporting capabilities.”
Album Cover Finder allows users to search for album cover artwork and reviews, provide remote iTunes control, and add images to digital music files. This windows based software offers a simple user interface for entering album and artist information. The program searches for and retrieves album covers from Amazon sized to fit the iPod. Choose from four different Amazon databases (Germany, Japan, UK, or USA) and fine tune Album Cover Finders search engine to produce the best possible results.
Your iPod as a PDA. I was intrigued by the idea of using my iPod as a PDA to store my calendar and contact information. I looked at several software packages and along the way found that the whole idea simply did not make sense. Where are my calendar entries and contact information normally? In my mobile phone of course, and I always have my mobile phone with me. So why take the time to resynchronize all the information again to my iPod. It just did not make sense.

I really did not like the way iTunes manages music either. I also found Anapod on the Internet, and have been using it ever since.
Anapod added a lot of functionality, but I still like the simplicity of iTunes better. I tried it and gave up on it.
