Current TV, founded by former U.S. vice-president, Al Gore, and his business partner, Joel Hyatt, is a cable TV channel with tight integration to the Current TV web site. The channel features short-form information based programs called “pods”. About 30% of the videos aired on TV are contributed via the web on the CurrentTV site.
Current TV pays for the user generated content that it airs on TV and users help determine what will be aired on TV by voting for videos on the web site.
Recently, CurrentTV and Yahoo! teamed up to launch a co-branded broadband video service called the “Yahoo! Current Network” which features videos across four channels: Action, Buss, Driver, and Traveler.
The television version of CurrentTV can be watched on DirectTV Channel 366, Comcast 107, Time Warner NY 103, and Time Warner LA 116.
